Press start, type 'UAC,' then change to off. If the UAC icons are still there for things like renaming, etc, it is an issue with ownership of files. In my case the fix ROYALLY ROYALLY fucked me up, and stopped every modern app from working (including settings and start), so before you do ANYTHING AT ALL MAKE A BACKUP USING SYSTEM RESTORE, AND. The shield icon indicates that a program may only be started using elevated privileges (read: administrator access). This is part of the User Account Control (UAC). If you really want to disable it, open your start menu, type UAC and open the first and only result, which should be the User Account Control Settings. @merriemcgaw Verified this bug in.Net Core 3.0 preview 4 3.0.100.11022 build from master branch + Dev16.0 Preview 5.0 28729.10.d16.0, UAC shield icon can be shown in.Net Core 3.0 using the provided code at the top, same as.Net framework. Customization :: Desktop Icon Columns
Oct 1, 2014I have lots of shortcut icons on my desktop for files and programs. That means 2 or 3 columns of small icons. It would appear the Win 10 will only allow 1 column. I've messed with the icon spacing and vertical spacing (regedit) and the vertical spacing works but horizontal spacing seems to have no effect.
Customization :: Desktop Icon Spacing
Aug 6, 2015I'm used to tweaking the values in HKCUControlPanelDesktopWindowsMetricsIcon Spacing in previous version of Windows, but it appears to work a bit differently in Win10.
Changing the Icon Spacing from the default of -1560 to, say -2000, gives more room for the icon title to spread out, but doesn't actually move the icons. e.g. I have some icons with long titles wrapped on two lines. By increasing the value to -2000 the titles now sit on a long single line, but the icons haven't moved. In fact, the icon titles now will overlap if I have two long-titled icons next to each other.
{Edited to add:]
Oh, for heavens sake! I had done several Icon Spacing tweaks in the registry and rebooted several times but nothing changed except the titles expanding wider. Then, I decide to move some icons around. Poof! The entire desktop grid adjusted the icon spacing, and rearranged the icons! Go figure.

Aug 13, 2015I created a new folder on the desktop and I can't change its icon to a one I downloaded. selecting the icon from the stock list (shell32.dll) works fine though. I just wanna have a folder with a blank icon.
edit: I fixed the issue. turns out Windows didn't like the fact that there was an 'ą' letter in the icon path.

attrib +S +H %1desktop.ini
The desktop.ini it produces is identical to the one when doing the process manually:
[.ShellClassInfo]
IconResource=C:Windowssystem32imageres.dll,22
But it doesn't work. It only works if I set the folder icon manually.

Customization :: Kaspersky Icon Is Blurry On 125% Scale
Jan 17, 2016So I have installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 (latest update) on my system running Windows 10 X64. I always change my Monitor Scale to 125% , after the scaling the icon looks awful.
But when Kaspersky is scanning something (animation icon) - the icon looks crystal sharp, but when Kaspersky is idle, that icon become blurry again.
I have tested other Antiviruses e.g. Bitdefender / Eset - non of them were like Kaspersky.
First Image, is when Kaspersky was scanning some file.
Second Image, is when Kaspersky is idle.
So I assume this issue isn't related to Kaspersky, because the icon can be up-scaled w/out loosing quality!

Customization :: How To Customize System Tray Icon Images
Sep 21, 2015I would like to find out how I can customize the actual images(icons) displayed in the system tray.
This is my current system tray -->
Icons I want to change include BitDefender, Chrome, and OpenVPN to make them better fit the new Windows 10 icon theme. The white icon in the top right corner is one that I was successfully able to change. The program is Vuze Bittorrent client --> The Vuse wiki actually tells the location of the .png image file --> remove-uac-shield-from-icon-windows-10.html....
For BitDefener, I found the folder where the .png files are located and I was able to overwrite them to white icons that would match my Windows 10 theme.
C:Program FilesBitdefenderBitdefender 2015supportofflinemanualimagesicons
However, the icon in the system tray stays the same (ugly red B). I am sure there is something else I need to do seeing as BitDefender is a security application in which I am sure makes it hard to tamper with it's files.
How I can change these icon images? or know of a tool that allows you to change the program's system tray image?
Customization :: Transparent Start Menu Icon Background?
Jul 30, 2015On the start menu each application / file has an associated icon. Unfortunately it appears that Windows 10 is using the accent color as the icon's background. So I get squares of color with the icon in the middle. There are screen shots from Windows 10 previews that show the icon backgrounds as transparent, or at least matching the background color of the start menu. But with transparency turned on, the icon backgrounds are not transparent, but instead the accent color.
It is as if Microsoft said 'Hey - ALL icons should be SQUARE - so we will make all icons SQUARE just like tiles, whether you like it or not'.
So - how does one make the start menu icon background color transparent?

Oct 5, 2015I tried the registry fix that worked last time on Windows 7 to fix this issue of custom icons not automatically changing, but apparently it cropped up again in Windows 10, and is also not fixable via adding the ',0' to the end of the registry entry.
Summary :
Although disabling UAC is a terrible idea, this move is necessary if UAC prevents some applications from running properly. MiniTool will show you how to disable UAC Windows 10. Additionally, some tips on how to change UAC for standard user to automatically deny UAC elevation requests are also introduced simply.
What Is UAC in Windows 10
UAC, short for User Account Control, is a component of Microsoft Windows’s security system. It can help mitigate the impact of malware by preventing apps from making unwanted changes on the PC.
Windows 10 will pop up a UAC confirmation dialog to ask you to confirm the change or not when some software attempts to change system-related parts of the file system or Windows Registry. Simply put, UAC can offer a special security environment, which protects your user account that has limited access rights well.
However, turning UAC on sometimes prevents programs from running well. Then, a solution is to disable UAC in Windows 10. In this post, we will introduce four methods.

How to Disable UAC Windows 10
Option 1: Disable UAC via Control Panel
Step 1: Type control panel in the search bar of Windows 10 and click this app in the result to open it.
Step 2: Go to User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings.
Step 3: Drag the slider control to Never notify and click OK to apply the change.
This way, the UAC is disabled and you won’t receive any notification. But this won’t completely disable User Account Control that is still active in the background.
Option 2: Disable UAC Windows 10 Command Line
Step 1: Run Command Prompt as administrator.
Step 2: To turn off UAC Windows 10, enter the following command and press Enter:
reg.exe ADD HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f.
Step 3: Reboot your computer to let the change take effect.
Option 3: Disable UAC Group Policy
Step 1: Input Policy Editor in the Windows 10 search box and click Edit group policy.
Step 2: Go to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.
Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom to find User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode and double-click on it, choose Disabled and click OK.
Option 4: Disable UAC Windows 10 Registry Key
Step 1: Press Win plus R keys to launch the Run dialog.
Step 2: Input regedit.exe and click OK.
Step 3: Go to the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem
Step 4: Double-click on the key - EnableLUA and change its Value data to 0.
Step 5: Save the change and restart your computer.
Now, we have shown you how to disable UAC Windows 10 in detail. In addition, you may want to set UAC to automatically deny elevation requests from users with standard-level credentials to avoid being prompted to enter administrator credentials to confirm all the time when running a program requiring elevated permissions.
How to Automatically Deny UAC Elevation Requests
You can do this work via Windows Registry or Group Policy.
In Group Policy, go to Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options, double-click on User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users and choose Automatically Deny elevation requests.
In the Registry Editor window, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem, double-click the ConsentPromptBehaviorUser key and change its Value data to 0 so that you can automatically deny UAC elevation requests.
The End
After reading this post, you will know clearly on how to disable UAC Windows 10 and how to change UAC for standard user to automatically deny elevation requests. Just try the methods above based on your needs to perform these operations to User Account Control.
